Van der Heijden produces installations, videos, objects, and photographs, which focus on the relationship between humans and power structures. She observes nature and highlights the direct connection between the vegetal and animal reign and cultural, ideological, political and socials frameworks. Her recurrent themes are language and symbolic power, control and power of the gaze, nature as a cultural and political idea, and anthropomorphic projection.
